If you haven’t checked out last year’s post, don’t worry! I’ll explain everything along the way. You see, I’ve never been one for setting new year’s resolutions. I’ve always heard everyone talk about them and keep up with them for about the first month. Unfortunately, that’s when we start to see the fall-off because no one took their New Year’s resolutions seriously. So, instead of setting strict resolutions for myself, I set intentions. Intentions that will hopefully enable me to be more present and genuinely make progress toward the person I want to become.
2021 RECAP
I’ve listed out the 8 intentional living intentions that I had set for myself last year and some notes for myself. As you can see, I didn’t do terribly but I didn’t do amazing either. But I also had a major wrench thrown my way but he’s the best thing to happen to me so it makes it worth it!
- Declutter – I went through my clothes, books, and paperwork numerous times. Unfortunately, we did not get to a major decluttering this year and took on more, in my opinion. Babies have a lot of necessities and things. With my son’s arrival, we will have to work on this one to maintain some sense of organization this year.
- Embrace Sustainable Living – I recycled way more this year than I had in the past. I also recycled my plastic trash bags at our local Meijer. I also tried to use my metal straws wherever I could but I would end up forgetting they were in my purse as they were buried. I’m going to work on bringing these out more often. I’m also going to work toward asking for no additional silverware in my to-go orders.
- Exercise More – I was thrown a curveball this year near the beginning of January and found out I was pregnant! After I received that news came a complete overhaul of my lifestyle. I started to exercise, overhauled my diet to be pregnancy-friendly (that I could hardly eat), and noticed that exercise kept the nausea away. I went to the gym and did water aerobics four times a week for 7 months until he was born. I’ve been seeing Alesha Courtney ever since and she’s been amazing in helping me get back into it during my postpartum! I’m building the consistency to keep going.
- Eat more whole foods – This was hard. When you are pregnant, you can’t eat a lot of things and you can’t drink a lot of things. You may not feel the want to. That was me. The nausea was real. There were a couple of days that I would eat, maybe only breakfast and sometimes not even that. I’d snack throughout the day then burn it all off working out. I had nausea throughout my whole pregnancy so eating was kind of a nightmare. I’ve been working on that with Alesha too now that I can eat everything and anything I want again, except Mexican food. I love it so much but cannot eat it anymore. So sad.
- Show Up On Instagram Stories – This went entirely to the wayside and so did my business. It wasn’t until the third trimester that I found a newfound love for it again and now, I don’t think I’ll ever quit! I intend to incorporate showing up on Instagram more as I’ve had so much fun connecting with other women and like-minded entrepreneurs there. I hope that you’ll come to see me!
- Build a veggie and herb garden – This didn’t happen and my husband and I agreed not in this house, but possibly our next one!
- Embrace mornings – When you’re pregnant, your whole goal is to just survive the day, regardless of what it looks like. Mornings were honestly the worst with the nausea which made this honestly very hard. I intend to not only embrace my mornings moving forward but incorporate habits and practices that serve me before I head off to my day job!
- build a spiritual relationship with my Creator – I thanked God every day just to get through my pregnancy. He brought me through labor and delivery safely and honestly, I was on my feet within hours of giving birth and wanting to be out and about in the world again on the third day out of the hospital. I thank Him now that I get to work on my business, my marriage, my day job, and my healthy and happy son every day!
What was 2021?
Overall, I will just say 2021 was a lot. It was a roller coaster. It was an anomaly. It was unexpected, surprising, thrilling and full of love. I learned so much about myself and what I want for myself and my future. Even if I didn’t build my intentions as well as I would have liked, I’m watering the lessons and gifts that I have been given in 2021 and taking those to a new level in 2022. I honestly couldn’t be more excited! So without further ado…
My 8 Intentional Living Intentions
I intend to keep these main intentions for 2022 moving forward. They are all pretty self-explanatory.
Exercise at least 3 days a week
Eat more whole foods and hydrate fully
Celebrate The Daily Wins
Express Gratitude daily
Work toward a growth mindset
To hustle & work hard with the peace of knowing that I am loved regardless of the outcome in scaling The Genuine Home
Embrace the habits that are necessary in order to get to a higher version of myself
build a spiritual relationship with My Creator
Be on the lookout as I will be creating more content on intentions this year and how to face 2022 head-on this year! I’d love to know if you have resolutions or intentions set so please let me know in the comments below!
