Do you have a space within your home that you love coming home to rest and put your feet up? I do! Our homes are meant to support our overall well-being and be places that we love coming home to! This is done by creating holistic spaces within our homes so that overall, it can support our holistic living lifestyle. Holistic living is becoming more and more mainstream. By utilizing these three simple tips to create a holistic space. you’ll be able to start taking the simple actions that I’ve outlined in my guide, “6 Ways To Create A Holistic Home” to create the holistic home of your dreams. Let’s get started!
What is Holistic Interior Design?
First, I talk about Holistic Interior Design and the entire process in this blog post here. This is a great place to start as it is the beginner’s guide, literally. Holistic Interior Design considers and creates for the whole person (mind, body, spirit), rather than the space’s form and function alone. It taps into your soul and creates the environment you need as a person to feel safe, comfortable, and healthy in your home. For as long as I can remember, the focus has been on how your home looks and how your home functions. Aesthetics and function were an “either you can have one but not the other.” Frankly, I don’t see how that makes sense. Both are as important as long they co-exist well within the dweller’s home.
What is a Holistic Space?
Well, creating a holistic space is a simple yet powerful act. A holistic space is a space within your home that is devoted to feeding your soul and allows you to embody the best version of yourself. An example might be a gym space, an office/hobby space, a meditation room, etc. These are spaces that are within your home that support you and allow you to embody your beliefs and values. Now notice that the above are examples of various spaces in which we can incorporate holistic elements. Our whole home is the sum of all of its rooms. The word “Holistic” is literally defined as “a whole is the sum of its parts”. This means that each space within your home that you incorporate holistic elements adds up to creating a holistic home!
Tip #1: Beauty In A Holistic Space
This is the best part of creating a holistic space – incorporating beauty. This is the decor, furniture pieces, artwork, crystals, or other organic components, maybe greenery too. It is any piece that you want within a particular space that brings you joy. A question to ask yourself would be, “Does this bring me positive vibes?” It is anything that opens your heart or puts you in a state of awe. This can be a plant, flower, or sentimental object that brings you a positive memory. These pieces are great for your holistic space. While I do find that a holistic space is best made up of a neutral color palette, you can incorporate color into it as well. The goal is to incorporate beauty first to start building that connection within yourself and brings you a sensation of peace.
Tip #2: Tending To The Holistic Space
The more time you spend within your holistic space, the more positive energy will fill the space. When you imagine an altar or another holistic space, what you’re really doing is using this physical space to direct your energy. It is a way to direct your connection with your soul.
As you start to tend to your space(s), you’ll start to notice how each piece in your space makes you feel. You’ll also start to notice how it adds to the space(s)’ overall mood. Remember, your home is always evolving – spiritually and energetically. It’s important to tend to the energetic and physical hygiene of a space.
Tip #3: Using What You Already Have
You can create, beautiful holistic spaces with items that you already own within your home. Don’t overthink that your space has to have certain sculptures, art pieces, crystals, plants, candles, or plants. Also, you don’t have to go out to buy something for it, just for the sake of filling it. You can use flower petals, fallen leaves from your garden, or even herbs that may have expired in your cabinet that you can put in a small ceramic bowl. It doesn’t have to be over-complicated. In Feng Shui, there are five elements. You can use the elements too along with the objects and things you have around you to create a holistic space.
In conclusion,
Your holistic space can take up an entire room, be on a shelf, window sill, table, bedside table, or anywhere that you can gather a few objects. It could even be in your garden, or inside a drawer. There is no right or wrong way to create a holistic space. What is most important is the soul you bring to it as you use these 3 simple tips.
