When one year ends and a new one begins, I find myself reflecting on the last year, and thinking of what’s to come. I love to reflect on each year. I’ve been setting new year’s intentions instead of resolutions for two years now. I’ve posted about 2022 and 2021 and went over how things changed, how I changed, what I accomplished, and what I hope to accomplish each year. I also usually make a list of attainable goals (not resolutions – I swear there’s a difference) for the new year but I normally keep those to myself and now I’m sharing them for the first time in this post! I always share 8 intentions that I have for the year and recap the year before because it is so good to reflect back and look forward!
2022 New Year’s Intentions RECAP
I’ve listed out the 8 intentional living intentions that I had set for myself this year and some notes for myself. As you can see, I didn’t do terribly but I didn’t do amazing either. But I also had a major wrench thrown my way at the beginning of the year that sent me on a journey of self-discovery, personal development, and growth for myself and my family. With that, I can’t help but think about why we always focus on doing more and being better than we were the year before. What would it look like to skip the big and seemingly unattainable resolutions? What if we shifted our perspective and thought about what didn’t work for us last year? On slowing down, doing less, and letting go of the habits and even people that aren’t good for us. So let’s dive right in!
THIS YEAR WON’T BE BETTER BECAUSE YOU READ A CERTAIN NUMBER OF BOOKS OR WORKED OUT A SET NUMBER OF TIMES EACH WEEK.
Exercise at least 3 days a week
I’ve been working with Alesha Courtney for almost a whole year now and have lost over 35 lbs. I’m so proud of myself. Unfortunately, the car accident that I experienced at the beginning of the year ended up with me doing physical therapy and healing work with some medical specialists. It slowed down my weight loss journey. I’ve been getting back into it and I love working with her and can’t see working with anyone else. Her method for fitness and nutrition works!
Eat more whole foods and hydrate fully
Alesha has introduced me to a whole new world of food and I love her meal plans and nutrition plans. I love making food and eating real food which is also a treat! It’s so good! I also notice that I don’t really like processed food anymore but I do still like to go out. I look forward to implementing this principle when I go out to eat as well. Water and I are best friends. It’s good for your skin, it’s good for your energy levels. Water is good for you. If you haven’t yet, go and drink some water. I’ll wait!
Celebrate The Daily Wins
I’m trying to make this a more consistent habit so I’ve set a check-in on my phone but if something exciting happens during the day, you bet your bottom dollar that I’m celebrating it!
Express Gratitude daily
I’m trying to make this a more consistent habit because it feels so good to express gratitude. It’s so high-vibe. I’d rather say thank you all day long than sit in anger, frustration, anxious. I have so much gratitude for my readers (that’s you), my social media followers, my newsletter subscribers, and my mentors that have helped me along the way this year and are in my community!
Work toward a growth mindset
I would say that this has been my main focus all year because without working on creating this growth mindset, I would not nearly have accomplished all I have with my business, my community, my career, my marriage, or my journey into motherhood if not for working toward creating a growth mindset. I would say I have accomplished this intention but I’ve learned that this is a continual journey and I will never truly be done.
To hustle & work hard with the peace of knowing that I am loved regardless of the outcome in scaling The Genuine Home
I’ve hustled and worked hard but am growing in the peace of knowing I’ve done all I can regardless of the outcome of scaling this blog and my business. I’m so grateful for the community who are here following along on the blog and come see me on Instagram. I’m grateful to give my all to the creative endeavors I have here like the resource library I’ve created for you and my courses that are here for you to take advantage of as well. I look forward to putting my focus into these more but I may have more coming soon to the resource library. Be on the lookout!
Embrace the habits that are necessary in order to get to a higher version of myself
I’ll just be honest. This intention was just that, I had intended it and written it down but I never put in any action toward this intention this year. Now, I’ve invested in a few books like Atomic Habits & Millionaire Success Habits to do this year so I’m carrying this intention into the new year and I’m okay with that. It’s okay to do that!
build a spiritual relationship with My Creator
This one took a turn. As you can see, I believe in spirituality but I’ve opened my mind up a little more to an idea of a higher power I’m not sure what he/she/it is called and I’m okay with that. I practice spiritual practices. I grew up Lutheran and in organized religion. To be honest, it never resonated with me as my spiritual practices do. I’ve embraced developing a spiritual relationship with who I understand to be my creator. It was a deep dive this year, especially after the car accident. I look forward to growing even more as I continue to fully embrace a holistic approach to life in 2023!
WHO AND WHAT AM I PASSIONATE ABOUT? WHAT MATTERS TO ME? WHAT MATTERS TO YOU?
What was 2022?
Overall, I will just say 2022 was interesting. This year started off with a bang and it is ending with a bang. I felt as this year, I climbed up a mountain. It was an anomaly. 2022 was unexpected, surprising, thrilling and full of love. I learned so much about myself and what I want for myself and my future. Even if I didn’t build my intentions as well as I would have liked, I’ve harvested the fruits of my labors from 2021 and am now propagating those from 2022 to the next level in 2023. I honestly couldn’t be more excited! So without further ado…
SOMETIMES, A BIG CHANGE IS NECESSARY.
2023 New Year’s Intentions
Take care of my body by nourishing my body with real, whole foods & water and doing movement that I enjoy daily
Celebrate The Daily Wins
Deepen the relationships that I have with my friends and family
Connect and explore nature
Integrate and expand upon the knowledge that I’ve gained in 2022 to scale The Genuine Home in 2023
Embrace the habits that are necessary in order to get to a higher version of myself
Cultivate practices and rituals for a richer spiritual life
2023 Goals
Now, after taking a look at my new year’s intentions, I make my yearly goals that I want to accomplish and make them more SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely). Since this is the first time, I’m publicly sharing my goals, I’ve dumbed them down for a general understanding but goals are very specific to the individual. In this case, that is me. I’m not suggesting that you skip goal-setting after you set your intentions. Goals are a good thing! But going into something you want to do by setting an intention with purpose makes it more meaningful.
My goal is to exercise 4 days a week, log and track food intake, and eat real, whole foods by doing meal preparation. I will also be drinking at least 1gal of water a day. Movement can include doing yoga, HIIT, Nature Hikes, Zumba, etc.
My goal is to finish courses that I’ve started on various topics for my business and make a plan each month to integrate all of it into my business plan so I can better serve all of you!
My goal is to schedule dates with the people that I can see in person and get those dates on my calendar. I will also be putting down when I’m calling or texting someone on my calendar. I will also buy cards – birthdays, anniversaries, thank-you’s, etc. and have those ready to mail out to my loved ones when those occasions occur.
My goal is to create my own personal development plan each month and implement the plan the following month so I’m growing into a better version of myself so again, I can better serve all of you!
In conclusion,
Social media has the power to take hours from our lives each week. If you spend just 30 min scrolling every day, that’s 90 hours per year. That’s almost four days of your life that you can’t get back, scrolling through things that probably don’t matter. Scroll less. Be mindful of when and why you scroll. Pay attention to who you follow and how they make you feel. Unfollow people that don’t bring joy to your life. This is an example of the action steps you can take toward completing your new year’s intentions.
We can always find more to chase. Look better, make more money, read more books, do more, see more, etc. But sometimes, it’s the moments of “less” that help us find our peace. So this year, think less about the things that you want to do, and more about who you want to be. How you want to spend your time, and what really matters. This is why I love setting new year’s intentions.
Let’s make 2023 the year that we prioritize the things that matter. Happy new year’s intentions!
