Your home is where you unwind and connect with loved ones – and crystals can ensure your space remains both cozy and safe. I found crystals and they have helped me shift the energy in my home to create an overall feeling of peace. None are random and they are all positioned to serve a specific intention within my home to maintain my intention of creating a feeling of peace. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my journey with crystals as well as resources on where you can learn more about crystals and how to integrate them into your home.
The Benefits of Using Crystals In Your Home
As with all interior designs, the best crystal arrangement is one that balances aesthetics and function. They are not just Instagram-worthy decor. While dropping a crystal in any room will immediately lighten the ambiance with positivity and beauty, you can take full advantage of a crystal’s potential by placing it strategically within your space. Here is a resource of all of the crystals and their meanings. You can also purchase from them as well!
1. Helps Detoxify Your Home
There are four crystals I highly recommend that you have in your crystal collection. They are selenite, clear quartz, amethyst, and black obsidian. Selenite is known for being a powerful energy cleansing crystal. It clears out stagnant and negative energy. It also acts as an additional charger for your other crystals to amplify the intention you set with them. Clear quartz is a powerful cleansing crystal and works to help with healing. This crystal is perfect for lifting the mood. Amethyst is the master of calming. It is perfect for a living space and is said to purify any space of negative vibrations. Black Obsidian protects your home from negative energies and builds positive vibes. It is most commonly used in entrances/foyers.
2. Protects Your Home
Crystals were once embedded in the shields of Roman soldiers. It is also said that they were embedded in the shields of the Amazonian women. If you are a fan of Wonder Woman, you know what I’m talking about. I love that movie. I highly recommend it, if you haven’t seen it yet, watch it. The second one is okay but definitely watch the first one first. Anyway, I digress. A lot of the black-colored crystals are known as protection crystals and ward off negative energy. They are most effective at entryways.
3. Lets You Connect With Nature
Most interior designers will tell you greenery, plants, and flowers are the only way to bring in Nature but it isn’t true! Crystals were made in Nature and are of Mother Earth. If you are looking for a natural element to bring into a space, a crystal (or two) is the perfect way to do it!
4. Helps You Lower Your Stress Levels
In today’s society, everything is fast-paced. Technology allows us to experience our everyday lives with ease but it also gives way to an addiction to instant gratification. With that, it’s always a good idea to take a weekly digital detox to help clear your mind and reduce your stress levels. I think it’s best to have a crystal next to your computer or television. I highly recommend Amazonite as it is said to ward off electromagnetic fields. Other than that benefit, it’s also known as the “hope” and “go with the flow” stone for positive vibes and increases creativity.
5. Lets you feel calmer
There is a part within your soul that tells you to stop, breathe for a while, and listen. Crystals can help you achieve that peace. Particular crystals such as hematite, amethyst, and moonstone emit relaxing and calming energies naturally. I can’t wait to try this myself but using a crystal bath. You can also create a serene environment with essential oils and candles. You can place crystals around your bathtub to stimulate all of your chakras. Crystals can be used to infuse the water with intention.
6. Promotes Balance
This may be a little more woo-woo than you’re used to but I love a little magic. I hope to be able to bring that to every single space that I work in. With that being said, crystals have particular energies and hold unique vibrations, which align with every chakra or energy center of the body. The center of self-expression and communication is known as the throat chakra. If this chakra is overactive, you might forget to listen and just talk too much. Blockages may result from the inability to express the truth and speak up. With the blue stones in your home, these crystals can help restore balance for you. You can use aquamarine crystals or lapis lazuli, which is referred to as the stone of truth. On the other hand, aquamarine is helpful for cleansing, fostering tolerance, bolstering courage, and helping you open up your throat chakra.
How To Choose, Use, and Cleanse Crystals
Choosing Crystals
There are a few ways you can choose a crystal. When I first got started, it was because of way number 2 but as I’ve built my confidence up, I focus more on number 3 than 1. But eventually, they all will coincide so do whatever feels best for you!
- Choose a crystal that you feel drawn to. This used to scare me because I’d have to trust my own intuition but then realized that it is the fun of it! Whether you’re in the room with crystals or browsing online, pick one that catches your eye. It might have a message or purpose for you that you don’t even know you need yet!
- Choose a crystal based on what you are struggling with. This struggle might be something physical or on a more energetic level. For example, rose quartz is a good stone if you are going through a time of upheaval or intense stress, whereas amethyst is thought to aid with headaches and nervous tension. Ultimately, you want to think of the intention that you want for the crystal to serve in your home.
- Choose a crystal based on what you want more of. For example, if you want more money, choose citrine which is about abundance and finances. If it’s love you want, opt for red jasper that is all about attracting love, etc.
Using Crystals
Now that you have a crystal, or two, or 20 (I don’t judge) – how do you actually use them?
A lot of this comes down to personal preference. But to get you started, let’s look at some ways that you can use your crystals. Remember, always be intentional about deciding where to place your crystals. There are no specific rules, but it’s best to keep stones where their specific energy will serve you in the highest way possible.
- Hold them when you need a little bit of support or reassurance
- Use them as part of your daily spiritual practice – journaling, meditation, yoga, etc.
- Keep it in your wallet or purse – a good option for crystals that are focused in abundance.
- Decorate your space with them – have a couple on your desk, a pile in a favorite dish with your rings, or even use a large crystal or tower as a centerpiece on the mantel!
- Use them as an energy cleanser – this might be your own energy or the energy of tools such as your oracle cards. They are a great alternative if you can’t burn a sage bundle.
- Nestle them up with your plants – just make sure that you don’t accidentally water them if they aren’t water-safe crystals!
Cleanse THE CRYSTALS
Just like uses, there are a few ways to cleanse your crystals. Remember that if your crystals aren’t a type that can be used in water, use one of the other cleansing methods!
- Put them outside or on a windowsill on a full moon to recharge.
- Smudge them with a sage stick or some palo santo.
- Use a cleansing crystal. For example, you can lay your crystals on a selenite tower, and the selenite can clear the energy of the other crystals.
When you first purchase your crystals and bring them home, it’s a good idea to cleanse them of any energies they might have picked up in transport. Ideally, you want to cleanse them on a regular basis – once a month is a good guide to start with. That way, they’re always ready to go when you need their gentle support.
Room-by-Room Guide To Use Crystals In Your Home
To preface this before moving forward into this section, I have three really quick tips. First, always use your intuition when choosing a crystal(s). The right one(s) will speak to you. Second, these are recommendations only. I do not make any promises they can fulfill their purpose without you doing more of your own personal crystal healing journey. I do not claim to be a medical professional or any kind of healing practitioner. Third, enjoy your crystals assisting you in your journey toward creating an intentional and peaceful home.
Entryway
The best placement for protection stones is on the sides of your doorway outside of your home. In the entryway, cleansing the air and creating an energized space isn’t just about creating a welcoming, safe atmosphere for guests who enter your home – it’s also about you and the people who live in your home. In an entryway, I would recommend black tourmaline, black obsidian, hematite, and labradorite. I personally place mine on my console table.
office
The home office doesn’t have to feel less homey, or less yours, than the rest of your space. Here is where, after all, you tap into your most creative potential. Place one in places you reach for the most, such as over a stack of papers (as a paperweight) or inside a desk drawer. I personally prefer creating a crystal grid to hold my intention of whatever it is I’m creating – abundance, wealth, peace, etc. where it gets a ton of natural light to stay naturally charged. I’ve used all of the above crystals but I also recommend these naturally ambitious stones like calcite, tiger’s eye, or carnelian.
Kitchen
You can invite soothing and positive energy into the kitchen too! It can be done by using kitchen accessories or utensils made from gemstones. I recommend placing crystals around the kitchen to set the intention of the space. Place various crystals next to the stove, window ledge, cookbooks, etc. to serve a specific intention in each area to build up positive vibes! In a kitchen, I would recommend rose or clear quartz, amethyst, or citrine.
Living Room
In the living room, it is well-thought that certain stones can bring about peace, relaxation, and tranquility but for the purposes of aesthetics alone, each of these crystals brings the perfect amount of color and texture to side tables, coffee tables, and bookcases. In a living room, I’d highly recommend amethyst. clear quartz or fluorite in a selenite bowl. Towers or points are great too!
Bathroom
Just as your moisturizer + toner routine sets the skincare tone for your day, the air you inhabit within your bathroom walls should set a well-cleansed tone for your day. I actually found a new skincare routine that I really enjoy so if you don’t love yours, I may recommend mixing it up and trying new things to love your skin more. But I digress. Any negative energy you may have absorbed during sleep gets zapped thanks to cleansers. Place a stone along a bathroom counter as you would a regular piece of decor like clear quartz, rose quartz, or even amethyst.
Master Bedroom
The bedroom is where you spend the majority of your time on this planet, and taking steps to ensure a relaxed feel can only take you farther in life – mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. In the master bedroom, I would recommend selenite and rose quartz.
Child’s Bedroom / Nursery
The point is to create the ideal environment for rest, nurturing, and growth for your child. Your child’s room should have a warm, safe, and at the same time peaceful energy to it so the child can develop in a more peaceful way. I personally love this idea as my son grows into the individual I hope that he becomes – kind, smart, confident. Well, there are crystals for that! I’d recommend celestite, peridot, rose quartz, and clear quartz.
garden
Green aventurine guides earthly energy up into the roots to pulse vitality throughout your plants. Bury a clean stone in the soil of your garden or potted plant, and add clear quartz for some extra energy amplification. The garden is also the perfect place to set any crystals that have been cracked or chipped. You don’t want to throw them away, so give them the job of helping your plants grow!
Start Your Journey With Crystals
For centuries, crystals have been used in homes to ward off negative feelings, encourage prosperity, improve sleep and create harmony. I have only just begun this work with crystals but I’m so glad I started! I was like, “This is too woo-woo for me.” at first but I’ve already started to feel the difference. I work with them in both an aesthetic and intuitive sense. Since your home should be a place of peace and comfort, what better addition than a beautiful crystal to enhance positive energy, harmony, and balance in your life? It’s so easy to start so I leave you with this as a starting guide.
Let me know in the comments which crystals you choose to start your journey toward creating an intentional and peaceful home!
