When was the last time you tried something new?
I, know more than anyone that trying new things can be undoubtedly daunting. The unfamiliar and breaking out of your comfort zone is petrifying. I graduated college with no idea of what I wanted to do, married young, lost my father, moved to a new state, fast forward to now- throw in a pandemic and it has been crazy! But because of this thrown wrench, I have been able to slow down and finally simplify and enjoy new things I’ve always wanted to try and explore my passions! It is such a good idea to go ahead and try something new to take that first step toward your ideal lifestyle!
We ask ourselves these questions all of the time: “Should I be doing this? Can I do this? Do I look stupid? What am I doing!?” While it may not feel like it, this is normal—and it’s good to break out of your comfort zone. I was even proud after completing a project that I did not know how to do but knew I wanted to try – painting! I’ve never painted on a canvas before in my life but to see the pictures come to life made my heart so happy!
DON’T LET FEAR STOP YOU!
All too often we let fear of the unknown stop us. But pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones is actually good for us! Trying new things not only helps us to vanquish those fears, but it also allows us to expand our minds and learn—both about the new thing and about ourselves. I had no idea how much I needed to paint and how it taught me about how I think. I don’t think in abstract thoughts, even though these paintings are definitely abstract. There was a method to this madness!
And then there’s the rush. There’s nothing quite as memorable as the thrill of a new experience! This is the feeling I get every time I see a new vision for our house that we are turning into a home comes to life like our refinished hardwood floors – they have made the largest impact on the look and feel of our home or painting our modern farmhouse and changing all the colors!
BE SMART THOUGH!
Now, I’m not saying go out and be a daredevil or put yourself in an unhealthy or financially stressful situation – like remodeling your entire home at once (because it gets tiring seeing it as a warzone rather than a finished space – believe me!) Though, to be honest, wanting to try something new that’s foreign to you might just make you feel like you’re high in the sky anyway like learning to play the piano!
On top of being memorable and giving me a thrill and left me with a positive perspective; there are also some real health benefits that can come from trying new things in an effort to live our lives to the fullest. To be honest, switching up new ideas, decor, and finishing up some house projects has left me even more motivated and empowered – like finishing my tidying marathon!
The possibilities are absolutely endless when it comes to wanting to try something new, and whether it’s a big or small leap outside your comfort zone you’ll still reap the benefits! Give your soul an intentional living boost and get out of your own way to try something new!
Let me know in the comments what you may want to try next!
