THE LESSON LEARNED
“Whatever season you are in, whatever life may throw at you, whether it feels like success or like a failure, expected or unexpected, you are made ready.” I first read this quote in Magnolia Journal and felt it resonate. I had already been sick and tired of being sick and tired and most of all, afraid. I had been comparing my beginning with someone else’s middle. It literally felt like I was spinning my wheels afraid someone might see me starting my blogging journey.
The STORY
When I first read this quote, I was in a pretty dark place, a place full of uncertainty. This quote gave me solace as it made living with the changes that I had been experiencing up to this point easier to understand as I had entered into all the transitions all at once. In April, I married my best friend, and we picked up our one dog at the time and our lives in Indiana and moved to Ohio after graduating from college. My husband is a computer programmer and me, am a multi-passionate writer, aspiring real estate agent, and interior design student. We bought our first home which is a 1950’s ranch-style house with a deck. My brother graduated from high school and started college. It didn’t stop there for celebrations. My father passed away on August 3, 2018. We celebrated his life to commemorate his time here on Earth.
I tell you this, readers, because even though I am a millennial and at the beginning of the rest of my life, there is no end to life’s surprises. I never expected any of these milestones to occur as quickly as they had but there is a time for everything in every season. In this season, I have come to clearly understand that I needed to start living life intentionally and pursuing my passions because life is too short. From a young age, I have been filled with a passion for creativity, a desire to work with people and own my own business. A true homebody that believes in living intentionally at home, I am also dedicated to creating beautiful and functional spaces and cannot wait to share with you all!
HOW WE GOT HERE
My reason for blogging is to share with you all color, design, texture, creating, recreating, dreaming, inspiring, improving, and serving. I am excited because I know that I get to share my passion for design and intentional living while sharing my inspiration with you all hoping that it will inspire you. I want every single person to live intentionally at home. I am also excited to know some people out there (hopefully!) will come with me along on this blogging journey in our very own Fixer Upper.
The Genuine Home is a place for me to document my life and love of design. I also will share glimpses of our lives as first-time homeowners. One day I hope to look back on this blog and see how far I’ve come and how far I still can go. It should be quite an adventure.
Love,
